ancat > This is a great view of Eight Mile Spur from Little Mount Buller. You can see where Eight Mile Spur hits Rocky Ridge and from there you descend to Refrigerator Gap and climb back up to The Bluff. The Bluff is the snow covered mountain in the back and left of the photo.
ancat > The track up Eight Mile Spur is easy to follow and only moderately steep.
ancat > The Bluff covered in clouds as viewed from Rocky Ridge. There was definitely more snow than rock on Rocky Ridge and the sun made sure the snow was nice and soft so that I would sink with every step. This was to be the continuing theme in my journey.
ancat > Refrigerator Gap. The last time i was here three weeks ago you couldn't get your car this far.
ancat > It took me nearly 3.5 hrs and 10,000 calories to get myself and my 20 kg pack to the start of the summit track up to The Bluff. A 4wd pulled up a few minutes later. Bastards!
ancat > Here's where the fun really begins. Try using a pair of flippers, mask and snorkel to swim through the snow. The track is better described as a deep trench and should be avoided at all costs.
ancat > After an exhausting battle my 6 mars bars, 6 muesli bars, 3 apples, 1.5 kg ravioli, 3 pasta sauces, 100g cheese, bag of jelly lollies, 8 packets of soup, 3 cups muesli and milk powder and the rest of my stuff made if safely to the summit plateau.
